Ride Rallarvegen – one of the world’s great mountain cycle routes – without luggage or changing hotels. You stay comfortably at Haugastøl both nights while we arrange bikes, the trains you need for the ride, and meals if you want them.

How the arrangement works

The idea is simple: you ride Rallarvegen end to end over two days without moving accommodation. From check-in until you travel home, logistics are set up for maximum flow.

What you do

  • Check in to your room or apartment.
  • Cycle towards Finse and back (if you arrive early).
  • We recommend booking a table for dinner in the restaurant for the evening (must be booked in advance).

  • We are ready with advice on weather, route, and anything you wonder about the trip.

If you arrive late, the day is for arrival and dinner only, and you get ready for the ride to Flåm on day 2.

Luggage and base

You stay at Haugastøl both nights. On the bike you only take a day pack. Everything else stays in your room.

Trains and flow

Train Haugastøl–Finse/Hallingskeid on day 2, and return Flåm–Haugastøl on the Flåm Railway, are included in the package and arranged in advance.

Arrival in Flåm

Flåm is the end point. There you drop off the bike; we take care of getting it back.

Start choice at check-in

Start point on day 2 is chosen at check-in so we can adapt to the day’s weather and the group’s level.

Bike and upgrade

The standard package uses our custom bike model Rallar Haugastøl. Upgrade to e-bike is NOK 900 per person and should be booked in advance if you want it.

  • Helmet (we recommend bringing your own; can be hired or bought)

Meals in the restaurant

The apartments have full kitchens if you prefer to cook. For a full experience we recommend upgrading with breakfast and our well-regarded two-course dinner in the restaurant (must be booked in advance). Packed food for the ride can be prepared at breakfast (for an extra charge).

Questions people ask before booking

Questions and answers

When do the trains run on the main day (day 2)?+

The train from Haugastøl up to Finse/Hallingskeid departs at 10:21. The return from Flåm (Flåm Railway) departs at 17:10. At about 10 km/h, the full route takes roughly 7.5–8 hours (78.4 km on the Visit Geilo GPX trace).

Can we finish cycling before Flåm?+

Yes. If you want a shorter day you can board the Bergen line at Myrdal, or at several stations down the Flåm valley. Your ticket is valid for the return no matter where you board.

Can we stay somewhere other than Haugastøl?+

No. The logic is built on a fixed base at Haugastøl both nights.

Can we use our own bike or hire an e-bike?+

The package assumes you use our hire bike, because logistics in Flåm only apply to our bikes. The standard model is Rallar Haugastøl. E-bike upgrade is NOK 900 per person and should be booked in advance.

Is the arrangement suitable for children?+

We do not recommend the Rallar package for children under 12 because of the steep road from Hallingskeid to Flåm. For families with children we recommend the Minipackage instead.

Can we buy meals?+

Yes. You can book in advance, or choose to cook in the apartment.

Can the group choose different distances?+

Yes. That is why you choose start point at check-in. Finse and Hallingskeid give different lengths.

What if the weather is bad?+

That is one of the strengths of the Rallar package: you can flex how far you ride. In strong headwind or demanding conditions you can take the train to Hallingskeid instead of Finse and ride a shorter section. We go through conditions with you at check-in. Bring clothing for the high mountains.

How is luggage handled?+

Anything you do not need on the bike stays at Haugastøl.
