The full Rallarvegen route is now passable for most cyclists. Haugastøl–Finse and the sections towards Flåm are in good condition. On Finse–Hallingskeid, 5 short snow patches remain – the only demanding one is near Fagernut.

Route status and trip advice

The full route is passable for most cyclists. Haugastøl–Finse is dry and in good condition with some washed-out sections. Hallingskeid–Flåm is open with good conditions. On Finse–Hallingskeid, 5 short snow patches remain – one near Fagernut on sloping terrain, the rest flat. Bring waterproof shoes and allow a little extra time on this section. Bike trailers and small children should not ride Finse–Hallingskeid. We recommend that children should be at least 12 years old for the full Finse–Flåm ride.

Haugastøl–FinseOpen

Dry and in good condition. Watch out for some washed-out or rocky sections.

  • The Haugastøl–Finse section is open and has dry, good riding conditions.
  • Watch out for some washed-out or rocky sections, and adjust your speed to the conditions.
  • At Vikaåni, about 4 km from Haugastøl, the car bridge replacement is delayed until July 31. A separate cyclist and pedestrian bridge is open now, so cycling on Haugastøl–Finse is unaffected.
Finse–HallingskeidPassable with caution

Passable for most. 5 short snow patches – one near Fagernut on sloping terrain.

  • Most cyclists get through this section without major issues.
  • 5 short snow patches remain. One near Fagernut is on sloping terrain; the others are flat and easier to pass.
  • Waterproof shoes and a little extra time are recommended on this section.
Hallingskeid–VatnahalsenOpen

Open and ready to ride. Hallingskeid–Lågheller has been plowed.

  • The Hallingskeid–Lågheller section has been plowed.
  • Further towards Vatnahalsen and Flåm, conditions are good, but watch out for some rocky and washed-out sections.
  • Together with Vatnahalsen–Flåm, this gives a long, continuous cycling experience.
Vatnahalsen–FlåmOpen

Open with clear track and good conditions. Watch out for very steep sections.

  • The full Vatnahalsen/Myrdal–Flåm stretch is rideable.
  • Wear a helmet and keep your speed down on the steepest sections towards Flåm.
  • This is a steep section where the surface can vary, even when the road is open and clear.

Plan your trip

Bike rentals at Haugastøl and Flåm are open daily now. Finse opens July 3.

  • Use a helmet and keep your speed low along Haugastøl–Kårdal. After the snowmelt, there may be washed-out sections in several places.
  • Respect protected areas, stay on the route, and take everything you bring with you back down.
